August 21-22 – Northstar Enduro

Northstar Enduro • August 21-22, 2021 • Northstar California Mountain Resort

Saturday’s race has been cancelled due to poor AQI. Following is an update for Sunday’s race:

Updated Course Map

Updated Stage Schedule

We’ll be starting riders at each stage by category. The indicated times are the start times at the start of each stage, it is your responsibility to be at each race stage at the time indicated. At the top of the table you will find the estimated transfer time for each stage to help you plan your transfers.

Mandatory Time Check – these are time checks at the CES Timing Tent for us to download your stage times from your timing chip. Failure to check there will be a 15sec penalty.

Updated Schedule

Sunday, August 22, 2021
• Packet Pickup: 7 – 8am at Gondola Building
• Race Start: 8am Gondola Ride from Village
• Race: 9:00am – 2pm
• Awards: 1 hour after the race completes

Sunday will be a similar assessment of the air quality in the morning by Northstar – hopefully we’ll be able to get things going with the updated schedule.

Please Return Your Timing Chips

Regardless of the situation, please remember to return your timing chips to CES.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we try to make this work.

Sincerely,

Steven Gemelos

Rider Meeting

To remove the pedaling climbs from the course, we are going to be using the Gondola to get racers to mid-mountain.  To get things moving – we’ll be skipping the morning rider meeting so folks can get on the Gondola and to mid-mountain.

Any updates will be posted at the bottom of the Gondola, and at the bottom of the Vista and Zephyr lifts.

If you have questions – you can come by packet pickup at the Gondola building on Friday, or Saturday morning.

Aid Stations

The main aid station will be located in the vendor area at the orange Gatorade tent.  Water will be available at the top of the Vista and Zephyr chairs.

CES Timing System

We are using the CES Timing System, the same system used by the Enduro World Series. This is an active chip timing system – you’ll be assigned your timing chip at packet pickup. Please read and understand the following
  • CHIP ON RIGHT WRIST – You must wear your timing chip on the top of your right wrist during the race.
  • NO OTHER ELECTRONICS – Do not wear GPS watch or other electronic device on your right wrist – nothing on the right wrist with the timing chip, they can interfere with timing. GPS on the stem or left wrist is fine – just nothing on the right wrist with the timing chip.
  • ACTIVATE YOUR CHIP – You must Activate Your Chip before each race stage – there will be a timing marshal at the stage start to activate the timing chips. As you get ready to start your race run, activate your chip (the chips will flash and BEEP-BEEP-BEEP) – then enter the start gate.
  • RETURN YOUR CHIP – You must return your timing chip to get your race results after you completed all stages. We’ll have a live display of results at the timing tent where you can check your standing as rides check in.
  • DO NOT TAKE THE TIMING CHIP HOME – Please return it to the CES tent after the race. We’d rather not have to track you down and have you mail the timing chip back to us.
You need to check in at the end of Stage 3 on Saturday, and Stage 6 on Sunday.
Pros also  need to check in after the Pro Only stage on Saturday.

Read the Start Times section Above

Your time to BE AT THE START of each stage is posted by category, stages close at specific times you must complete the stages before it closes.

Stage Closed Times

The Stage Start Times sheet shows a Stage Closed time for each stage for Pro/Experts and different times for Sport/Beginners,    Courses tape will be moved when switching between Pro/Expert and Sport/Beginner categories on the stages .  Once we switch things over, we can’t switch it back.  So Pro/Experts must finish their stages before their indicated times.  And Sport/Beginners must complete their stages before their indicated times.

Stage Order

Saturday

  • Pro/Experts are racing in order – 1, 2, 3
  • Sport/Beginners are racing 3, 1, 2
  • Pros have an extra Pro Only stage – TNT/Lower Boondocks

The scheduling of the Pro Only stage is delayed to allow for other riders to spectate, cheer on the Pros, and get rowdy

Sunday

  • Pro/Experts are racing in order – 4, 5, 6
  • Sport/Beginners are racing 6, 4, 5

Transfers

We have removed all climbing transfers from the race due to air quality concerns

  • Gondola – Saturday and Sunday morning will start with a gondola ride to mid mountain.  The Gondola will start spinning at 8am – racers with a 9:30 start time should get on the Gondola at 8am.   After that – riders should be getting on the Gondola about 1.5 hours before their start time to give sufficient time to get to your first stage start of the day.
  • After the Gondola, you  will be using the Vista and Zephyr lifts to get to your stage starts
    • Vista – Stages 1, 5, and 6
    • Zephyr – Stages 2, 3, and 4
  • The transfers are marked when you get to the top of the lift.
